A Derby care home has been preparing for Christmas by treating its staff and residents to a carol concert.

MHA Willowcroft, in Spondon set up the concert following a presentation of its music therapy service to staff at the home to give them more information about how it helps people living with dementia.

All staff members joined in the concert and allowed the home to get into the festive spirit with some Christmas classics.

The home is a 60 place residential and dementia care home split into two wings providing 30 residential places and 30 places for dementia care.

Ioanna Zervoudaki, music therapist said: “We managed to gather all staff and residents together and wanted to do something special for the residents.

“Recently a music therapy session was seen by the senior carers at the home and after a discussion we decided to set up the concert which included a small choir doing Christmas carols and songs.

“The residents loved it, we even had a couple of visitors who decided to join in and it was a very special event.

“All the planning was done at the home, it’s nice for everyone to get into the festive spirit and enjoy the lead up to Christmas.

“Everyone was smiling, they all contributed to the singing and the atmosphere was beautiful.”
