David Wilson Homes has supported Broomleys Cricket Club in Coalville with a £500 donation towards its women’s team in the year of the club’s 75th anniversary.
Grassroots sports have been greatly affected by the impact of COVID-19 and the contribution from the Leicestershire housebuilder will go towards providing specialist equipment for the newly-formed women’s team.
Thomas Smith, Secretary at Broomleys Cricket Club, said: “Fortunately, the women’s team started towards the end of the lockdowns which enabled a new set of around 30 women to create great friendships at a time when people had been without any interaction with others for a long time.
“We now want to give them all the best facilities and equipment so they can enjoy the softball format of the game and have lots of fun along the way.
“Now restrictions have eased, we’re looking forward to being in a nice social environment. With more spectators allowed and more families being able to come and support loved ones, we are looking forward to seeing the growth of the cricket club now.
“David Wilson Homes’ Community Fund scheme is an excellent idea. At times it can be very tough to get new people involved with a new sport and the benefits that this will create are fantastic for the local community.”
Broomleys Cricket Club is home to facilities for all players and spectators. It now has multiple men’s teams, junior teams and the brand new women’s team as it continued to grow within Coalville and the surrounding communities.
For years to come, the new equipment sourced with David Wilson Homes’ investment will help the women’s cricket team train with the best resources and drills, whilst encouraging members of the community to consider a new sport.
