The garden at an Oadby based care home has been awarded a gold award following the East Midlands in Bloom Awards 2022.

The garden at MHA Aigburth, which provides residential and residential dementia care for 56 residents was awarded the judges award for the borough of Oadby and Wigston.

The garden is situated on the ground floor at the home and received a lot of praise for being a beautiful and inspirational site full of interest and scent

The garden hosts 10,000 schoolchildren every year and inspires activities across the curriculum.

Garden volunteers meet fortnightly, and the Friends of the Gardens run activities and events including an Indian dancing afternoon

Marilyn Bowles started gardening at the site four years ago when her aunt was a resident; she now has a team of seven volunteers who together achieved an It’s Your Neighbourhood achievement at their first attempt.

Speaking after getting the award she said: “It was a nice surprise when we were told we had won the award.

“The garden at Aigburth has won awards before, and it’s nice to see we are still getting awards from different areas of the community.

“The judges were really impressed with the art and various plants and flowers we have in the garden.

“The garden is very inspirational and there are a lot of memories attached to it relating to our residents.

“We are always looking for add to our extensive collection and include the input of residents, as first and foremost it’s their garden

“Our garden is very popular within the community, and we are always getting visitors who want to come and visit.”
