A Leicestershire-based knitting group have been putting their skills to good use with Leicester City Football Club-themed yarn creations at David Wilson Homes’ Wigston Meadows development in Wigston.
The Cazlyns Craft Club have ‘yarn-bombed’ an area of the public open space at the Newton Lane community with a variety of knitted items including football boots, fox emblems, scarves and a knitted football pitch to celebrate a momentous year for the team.
The craft club, made up of a total of 20 members, meet at the Menphys Hub in Wigston three times a week to knit together now that COVID-19 restrictions are easing. Menphys is a registered charity which provides support for children and young people in Leicestershire with disabilities and the community facility provides sensory activities for babies in addition to a library and coffee shop.
Lynda Lambert, co organiser at the knitting group, said: “We were thrilled to be asked to take part in this project and our members have been creative and worked hard to get the project completed in a short space of time. We are proud of what we have achieved and to have the chance to celebrate this year’s achievements of Leicester City Football Club.”
The group’s football themed creations follow Leicester City’s recent victories in winning the FA Cup and Community Shield and will allow the celebrations to continue throughout the housebuilder’s Wigston Meadows development.
Rachael Harrison, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes East Midlands, said: “We were thrilled to see the craft club decorating at Wigston Meadows as it has definitely brought a smile to our faces seeing their brilliant creations on display.
“It’s important to us to support the local community and the Leicester City Football Club themed items definitely celebrate the best of the city with its recent achievements.”
Becoming a booming trend in the first lockdown in March 2020 and beyond, knitting has many benefits such as stress and anxiety relief, helping chronic pain and reducing loneliness and isolation by joining local knitting groups.
David Wilson Homes is building three and four bedroom homes at Wigston Meadows with prices starting from £313,995.
